Another crazy Japanese romance

Posted on: January 25, 2010

This guy, he married a virtual reality girlfriend from Nintendo DS. The Nintendo DS game allows men to court and woo an array of virtual women. If they’re lucky, the pretend players even get to “kiss” them. Well, one guy was apparently so, um, successful at it, that he has now decided to wed his 2-D girlfriend.

This guy Sal says Nene, his 2-D girl is better than a human girlfriend. “She doesn’t get angry if I’m late in replying to her. Well, she gets angry, but she forgives me quickly.” Asked if he’s courtesy addicted to the game, he says, “If addiction is playing this every single day, then you might call me addicted.” With Nene, Sal doesn’t feel the need to find a human girlfriend, he added.

According to studies, Japanese men are less and less interested in romance, sex, and girlfriends. If they start be satisfied with 2-D girlfriends than real human interaction, I say we Japanese women should get the hell out of Japan ASAP. Another one of these news, and I promise, I will!

What is Tokyo Meet Market?

From the Western perspective, what goes on in the Japanese dating scene is really different and interesting! In this shy nation of Japan, meeting new people is almost institutionalized, dating and romance is littered with conventions that protect people from social awkwardness. What are dating conventions and rules in Japan? How do the shy Japanese people meet new people, develop affection, and express their passion? As I research and answer these question, I will write a real time report of what's going on in the Tokyo dating scene, or the "Tokyo Meet Market" here in this blog. I hope you enjoy my blog and a trip around Tokyo Meet Market with me!
